Any good vacation spots out west?

My family and I are trying to plan a vaction for the summer and we want to go out west. We live in Kentucky and when I was little we took a two week trip out west to about Colorado. We were thinking about the Grand Canyon or yellowstone but we are going to drive and we figure that those will be almost two week trips, we would like to be gone closer to a week. If anyone has any good final destinations that they know are great I would really appreciate it. Also if you know of any cool spots to stop along the way, we like to try and stop and do at least a little something everyday. Thanks!

SF , LA and Vegas are must to see big cities in the west.
