Massacres in Tibet, locking up political prisoners, jailing democracy activists, torture… The list of Chinese attrocities goues on. Are you disgusted with all this brutality when the Olympics is supposed to represent humanity and peace?

Actually I am and would prefer to see all Western countries boycott this party. I really think it’s bad taste. These Olympics were supposed to improve the conditions, that’s what those in favor said but it’s gotten worse and worse

The Chinese treatment of the Tibetans, especially, the monks has been disgusting. As the resistance increases, the violence of the Chinese also increases. The Chinese are in Tibet wrongly; they commit civil rights abuses, and the people should be allowed their right to worship. The Tibetans have historically been a peaceful people; the Western community needs to wake up to the atrocities that are being committed. Yes, I am disgusted.

China doesnt deserved to host the Olympics from the first place, its brutal policy on dissent and barbaric crackdown on people who oppose communist rule is marked in world history and in no way has place in civilised societies. But since China is a fastest growing economy and the Olympics is a grand display of wealth amidst its brutalities, the Organzing committee who granted China’s hosting of the 2008 Olympics blindfoldedly allowed it for economic profit purposes. There’s no doubt about it. Money speaks louder than principles.

I do believe there are human right violations in Tibet. However, China is a soverign nation. More importantly, it is a superpower with a economic and military prowless to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, the most pressure you will see from the rest of the civilized world are a few carefully chosen words requesting lienancy in the area.

I think that’s a valid question. I wonder what will really be done. Many people are asking this question, and, they basically have the same position as you do, but they can’t really do much since they are so divided, meaning they aren’t working together.

That’s why, with Imagine A Change online forums, you can get together with people, and you could even have people vote in a poll, whether or not they think people should boycott the 2008 Olympics or not, and have a good and deep discussion on those issues.

When people like yourself try to question things, their voice isn’t really heard. What can you do? Write a letter to your congressman and have it opened by a staff member, maybe it will be read, and then probably thrown out with no change? Write to the media and hope that they talk about your concerns? None of that is working.

Fortunately there is an answer to this. A new nonprofit organization called Imagine A Change has just started. The purpose is to allow people to be heard and express their opinions in meaningful discussions online.

The organization it self is a neutral organization, who’s mission is to provide a forum for free speech on the issues, and doesn’t advocate for one side of any issue.

I hope you, and others will take advantage of this great resource that just started a few days ago, and if you think the cause is worthy please tell everyone you know about it…

All you’d have to do is copy your question and this response and forward it to them so that they can also benefit from the forums.

Visit,, for the main site, and to get to the forums.

Take care and I hope to see you on Imagine A Change!

Yes, I am. Good for France’s Sarkozy, I cheer them on for formally objecting, rightly so. He even offered to mediate before proposing a boycott.

I know it’s up to every country to call it as they see it, but what was Celine Dion thinking? Yep, I know what sports participants will say; you only have a short career and it’s not about politics … but I hope my own country boycotts the opening ceremony at the least. I won’t be watching that showcase, I tell you.

    Disgusted, yes; surprised, no.

The Chinese communists are acting like mideast terrorists, and vica versa. Did you notice the similarity in their rhetoric? Recently, bin Laden tried to blame the Pope as being part of a long and lengthy conspiracy against Muslims. The Vatican characterized his allegation as baseless. Just before the crackdown, the Chinese communists said that the Dalai Lama was behind the unrest in Tibet. He denied this vehemenently. Both the mideast terrorists and the Chinese communists tried to blame their present woes on religious leaders. That is the similarity.

Now, everybody knows that bin Laden wants another crusade that throws Christians against Muslims. That is why he is blaming the Pope for being part of an anti-muslim conspiracy. But, what about the Chinese communists? Why are they blaming the Dalai Lama for the present unrest in Tibet. The Chinese communists know that the Dalai Lama has many, many supporters still in Tibet. So, they created their false allegations primarily to use him as the scapegoat and excuse for a showdown with his remaining supporters. The Chinese communists planned their crackdown long before they made public their false allegations.

I worry about the similarities between the rhetoric of the mideast terrorists, like al Quaida, and the Chinese communists. The mountainous regions of Pakistan, where bin Laden is supposed to be hiding, is right next door to China. Isn’t it? I wonder where bin Laden is really sleeping tonight!

As for the Olympics, they are not about politics. But, those of us who watch the Olympics, and the Olympians themselves, are not beyond the political pale. Now, I understand the Olympians when they say they do not want years of work and effort in their particular sports categories going down the drain because of the present politics surrounding China and Tibet. I don’t blame them for that attitude, because, frankly, just having the Olympians boycot the Olympics only, in and of itself, does very little to make a statement to China that the civilized world is not happy with its present aggression in Tibet and its human rights record historically.

The athletes should not take the fall. They should not take a fall at all. If the countries of the world decide to pull out of the Olympics, then let us protect the efforts of our champions by holding a Unique Alternative Olympic Games in one of the western countries capable of doing so within one year’s time. Delayed is better than not at all, isn’t it? Let China alone take the fall. Let China lose face before the whole world, as all its countries, or most of them, pull out of their games as a willing statement, by politicians and atheletes alike, against the brutality of the Chinese communist regime. And, just to make the point, let us hold the Olympics elsewhere. If this does not embarass China, nothing will.

I do not know why the IOC gave China the nod. Besides its present and past brutalities, its water, air and soil is poisonned with chemicals. The environment itself is dangerous to the Olympians. China’s own people are scared to drink its water, eat food grown within its own soil and breathe its own air. Why should our own, and why should the world’s, Olympians be exposed to this garbage?

The harsh treatment by the Chinese has cause an international outcry but Western never thought that their own government is supporting Israel for their crimes against Palestine and US suppression against Iraqis.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Yes. China has also guaranteed there will be no rain for the Olympics. Maybe God has other plans and will humble the evil Chinese Communist regime…
