Can I become involved in AFL at 21 years of age, having never played any sports before?

Magnum Opus asked:

I’m 21 and I want to start playing contact sports, AFL in particular.

I’ve never played any sports before in my life so I was wondering:

Is it possible?

How would I do it?

you can get involved in Aussie Rules. then you can see where that takes you. look around for your local club and see what you can do about signing up for training

    Yup, you sure can.

Everyone has to start somewhere, regardless of how old you are.
Look for a local football club that needs players of your age, and make sure that they train their players to know how to play footy properly.

Or get somebody that you know that can play AFL and ask them to train you.

    Good Luck :D

Yeah, of course. Get in contact with your local club or league and sign up. All you need are a pair of footy boots which cost anywhere from $60 to $300. Also, if your school played AFL they may have an old collegians competition going, in which case you can go and play for your school at the age of 21. I know my school does it and im getting down there in the next couple of years and pulling on the boots again. No better feeling than playing AFL!

First off the game is not called AFL, you wouldn’t say in conversation, yes i play australian football league would you, the game is called Aussie Rules.

and yes you can still play the game, join a club and do the training, you never know you might be a good player, listen to the older blokes around the club and you’ll get a game more than likely, that’s what we’d do at our club.

Start with getting fit and do some weight training, then you need to watch games and practice kicking the ball with a friend. You can play any sport at some level if you really want to, its not too late.

I think you mean Australian Rules Football, there is a big difference between it and AFL go down to your local club and have a kick see how you go

It would be extremely hard. You would have to be one bloody amazing player. It’s rare to see that many rookie drafts (which is the category your under) let alone get in. If you work REALLY REALLY hard and want it that much, then you’ll get there. but you must be an afl lover too (live for the game)
