What is the best powdered sports drink?
I’m looking to buy a powdered sports drink, something like gatorade, to use during work outs and biking. There’s a lot of choices, some significantly more expensive to others, so I’d like to see what some people think before I buy something I’ve never tried before.
I’ve looked at Accelerade…it sounds good, and I really like that it contains protein, but it’s pretty expensive. I then read about Gatorade Endurance…it’s much cheaper, but contains no protein, and I’ve read some user reviews that say it’s very acidic and upsets the stomach. Don’t want that!
So if you have any opinions, please let me know. I want a powdered drink because you save a lot because of the quantity, and they will not contain high fructose corn syrup like ready made drinks do!
Woah - some of these answers are not on target. I’m looking for a sports drink primarily to use when biking (I go on hour long bike rides, 10-15 miles, sweat a TON), so that’s why I don’t just want water - I need to replenish electrolytes, which is why I want a sports drink. And what’s the main ingredient in all sports drinks, anyway? Water.
And to the guy who mentioned high fructose corn syrup in gatorade…that’s why I’m looking for a powder, I mentioned that near the end of my question details. There is nothing wrong with good sugar but HFCS is the worst sugar, which is why I’d like to avoid it.
Red Bull contains tons of caffeine and is absolutely not for hydration during endurance training. Cell-Tech is a premixed creatine formula, not a sports drink, and it’s extremely overpriced for what it contains, waaaay too much sugar for a normal sports drink, it’s entirely for post-weight lifting supplementation.
Also, for the guy who said to mix whey and casein protein, that is something you don’t want to do. Casein is slow absorbing because it gels in the stomach, resulting in slower digestion. If you take whey with it, this whey also gets gelled by the casein, preventing the beneficial fast absorption that you would take whey for in the first place. They are to be taken separately.
I make smoothies all the time, except in mine I put frozen strawberries and pineapple, a banana, ice cubes and orange juice. This however, is not a sports drink, certainly not something to drink during endurance sports (read something about fruit juice being detrimental to rehydration).
