Ter asked:

Given the political climate, pollution and overcrowding, was the Olympic Committee wise to chose this country?

I don’t think a country notorious for human rights violation should be allowed to host the Olympics. China is analogous to **** Germany in 1938.

    Yes.
Should Americans be allowed to compete after their unprovoked invasion of a soverign nation and continued occupation?
The competitors from LA will have an edge. They’re used to all the pollution.

No I think the Olympics are a waste of money and resources for any Nation that hosts it.

Horrible choice. I hope that the result is that it ends the olympics for good.

It is pointless and wastes a lot of money supporting a country that scored worse in its democratic performance last year than Iran.

I believe they thought that it would focus the world’s attention on them so that they might change their ways. Not a bad idea.

I’m sure the IOC was bribed handsomely for it’s choice.

Yes, because of the things you listed. Now the world can see what China is about. Hopefully, that will lead to more democracy.

The hot stock tip for today will be in the medical products area: oxygen tanks respirators for all during after the games..

The london olympics are going to basically bankrupt Britian the cost has gone from something like 4 billion to 40 in two years. You only have to look at the state of the delapidated greek stadiums they installed at the last one to see what a compete and utter waste of money they are.

Yes, the people of China deserve our respect, as do the people of every country. plus they have the money to do it. If America had to host an olympics right now we would have to borrow the money from china.

This choice sux..the olympic committee was probably bought off by china. Won’t be the first time they’ve been caught taking $ under the table…

If you think pollution is even a problem, hold them in Antarctica.

If over crowding if one of the issue the west is criticizing China for, they should not criticize China for limiting visa to foreigners since many western countries have critisized china for limiting visa.
