How did a brutal regime that crushes free speech end up with the Olympics?
spana . asked:
I have read of the torture and killing done by the CHinese dictatorship against Tibetans, Falun Gong and people who want democracy. How did the world allow such a corrupt brutal rogue state to have the games?

The Chinese have become very good at twisting other nation’s arms behind their backs. It was the same with the International Olympics Committee.. They made promises to the IOC they’ve failed to keep such as free and unfetttered access to the press and the internet. I’m sure the IOC realizes it made a huge mistake.
Aeuy, I do wish people like you would read into things more before shooting your mouth like that. You’re the retard. Looks like you’re either a pro-communist, or have only read the Chinese government’s twisted tales. You - know - NOTHING.
There are two reasons as to why the toturing and killings go on:
1) The chinese government censores many things, things that no one outside of the country would believe what people now are capable of doing. Thus not many people truly know what’s going on. Plus they not only hide things from the other countries, they also hide things from their own people.
2) Other countries dont dare to stand up against China due to China’s rapidly advancing development. How many things do we see these days which are under some big foreign company name, but made it China? The labour fee is hella cheap. Upset China, bam, no more cheap labourers for you.
It’s just easier for the governments of other countries to just pretend they don’t know anything. What a big mistake that is.
Edit:
*sigh*
First off, I’m chinese, and I go back to China lots to visit my relatives. I learn things. I know what it’s like there.
Second off, a few of my relatives have been thrown into jail and totured. I’m not lying.
Third off, the tiananmen ******* incident was a fake; those people were not falun gong practitioners, and there are evidence for it.
Fourth off, of course they dont kill and toture everything that gets in their way. They’re charming enough to know not to do that.
I’m saying what I know and think. Have a good day.
so vira, seems like you are hearing one side of the story too, because either you never heard any opinions from people who lived in china, or you have been told by your country that china only tell lies. china has a communist government, we all know that is not the perfect type government out there, in fact, well first all, its nothing like a dictorship, second, china does not follow alot of the communist rules as you learned in school about the communist 50 years ago. for the past 20 years or so, china has been heavily influenced by the western culture, it is only a matter of time before chinese change their government to democracy, its not that easy to do when you have 1.3 bil people. I have been to china in many business trips since a few years back, it is nothing I expected it to be. So other countries do not need to stand up to it, they are providing enough influences and pressure to china so that china does not make a major mess with the less perfect government.
and about fa lun gong, while i was at beijing once, there was a news about some fa lun gong followers commiting ******* at tiananmen square by burning themselves, i believe there were 4 of them, the news came out and told us that they were told to commit ******* by their leader so they can go to heaven (or something equivalent). proof was shown that they were fa lun gong followers. now this is one side story from the media so obviously you can argue they are somehow forced to commit ******* to give fa lun gong a bad name. but one thing was for sure, 4 of them died, and everyone at tiananmen square saw on that day, now why would the government care so much about a small cult, they could just treat it as religion, religion has always been in china since ancient times, and there are now more chinese converting to christian/protestant than ever in china, you don’t see the governemnt torturing them. i guess communist does not mean no free religion. as far as torturing goes, I have seen police in the us abusing their power to torture people, if the same thing happened in china, and if you believe an american media will not exaggerate the story, then you need some more vision before you can make any opinions about other countries.
