How do I get sponsors for a local sports team?

I play for a local sports team, and to raise money, we were looking into getting some local sponsorships from a local pizza place, or whatever. What do we need to do in order to do this? Do we first need to become a non-profit organization? Or can we just start straight shooting? Are there any legal steps involved? etc

if this is a youth league it is pretty easy
just ask local business
if this is an adult league.. many bars pubs sponser teams
Do your best around people. When the time is right you will be offered. Believe me do not ask for a sponsor,
