What To Do When You Go Camping As A Family

Published by admin under Timed Finals

Camping can be a great way to spend quality time with family and friends. There are endless activities that you can participate in while camping. Packing thoroughly before starting your trip can make for a smooth, drama-free camping experience. There are a few essentials that any camper can’t go without.

One thing that is certain on any trip is food. You will have to eat while in the great outdoors and, depending on your destination, there may not be many dining options. You will need to pack the staples and see if there is room for the luxurious food items.

•    Water is a must. Be sure that you have enough bottled water to sustain the entire group in case of an emergency.
•    Raw foods are great. They won’t spoil. Freeze dried meats and other types of foods can be purchased at camping specialty stores.
•    Pack lots of snacks like chips and nuts. Trail mix can be great for energy as well as the munchies.

Decide on your sleeping arrangements. If you are taking a tent set it up in your backyard before you leave. The last thing you want to do is get to a camp ground and find out that your tent doesn’t stand up. Bring sleeping bags and blankets for everyone. It may not seem cold at home, but the great outdoors can get chilly at night regardless of where you camp.
Repellent, repellent, repellent! Don’t let the bugs eat you alive. If there is room you may also want to bring something like a citronella candle or lantern for the camp site. These candles repel bugs from far away. A first aid kit should also be at the top of the list. You never know what may happen while embarking on such rugged terrain.

Going camping during the winter can present you and your family additional obsticles. Prepare for it to be colder than you can imagine. Double up on clothing and blankets. Bring water resistant out clothes to keep your clothes from absorbing water. Pack an ice ax. You never know what may freeze at night. Last but not least, be sure to pack enough waterproof bags. You will end up putting everything that you want to keep dry in these.

Just to remind you, these are only the necessities. You will want to bring other stuff and that is perfectly fine. Music, books and equipment for activities can take your trip to the next level. This is a different story if you are backpacking because you can only take what you can carry.
Whatever the case, camping is an activity that depends on what you make it. If you can survive with the bare necessities then more power to you! If you need some of the comforts of home don’t be afraid to tote them along. Lifelong memories are made as you go camping, be sure to bring a camera to capture all those. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the time with the ones you love!

My Camping List Seems Endless

Published by admin under Timed Finals

My camping list seems to last forever! Who doesn’t love to go camping? Lying under the stars listening to the sound of nature all around you, building a fire out of nothing but sticks to keep you warm. Getting in touch with nature is the best satisfaction of going camping, but the camping list of things to pack seems endless.

Some people are avid campers so they seem to know all the tricks of the trade on how to pack the least possible. There are few factors involved when packing for camping… How long are you going to be gone and what necessities do you have to have?

If you are only going to be gone a few days then the less stuff that you will have to pack. The cheapest and easiest way to camp would be to eat simple sandwiches and snacks such as chips. For these types of meals you will need to load your cooler with sandwich sliced meat, condiments of your choice, ice and drinks. The only other item that would be sufficient is paper towels or paper plates. This is a simple meal that anyone can fix.

If you plan on cooking you will need pots or pans, dish soap, rag to scrub your dirty dishes with, grill, food items, cutting board if you plan on cutting up meat or vegetables. When we go out we cook every meal but lunch, lunch is always sandwiches and chips. A large cooler is best when going camping because you can fit a lot into it.

There are other staple items that you need also when planning a camping trip such as a tent, sleeping bags, pillows, camping cots, toiletry items, propane cylinders if you plan on taking a gas grill, tarp, bug spray, snack food are just a few.

I always make sure that I take along my black swiss army knife, which can substitute for many other small tools.

Camping is an experience that the whole family can do any age and any sex. You can pack everything except the kitchen sink but after you camp a few times you will find yourself weeding things out and realizing that you don’t need everything after all.

Camping Is Not Just About A Black Swiss Army Knife

Published by admin under Timed Finals

Certain things are needed when a family goes camping. Items needed at camping are similar to things used in a home. Food, water, clothing, warmth, light and shelter are the basics. A black Swiss Army knife, fishing pole and fearless attitude is also helpful. There are things that go bump in the night, creepy crawly things, and light is scarce.

Campers need shelter as protection from the environment. Tents are essential for shelter at camp, unless sleeping on the ground. Based on how many people and how much equipment is coming along are how tents need to be picked.

The best friend at camp is fire. Campers should know how to start one, but if no one can, the right materials to start a fire should be packed. Fires warm camps and food can be cooked over the flame. Light also comes from fire, but to be safe, lanterns and flashlights need to be incorporated.

Make sure to cover all avenues with clothing. Shorts, long pants, hats to keep heads warm or to shield from the sun should be taken on the trip. Tanks, long sleeve shirts and hiking boots are necessary, too. For sites with lakes and creeks near, if campers will be swimming, bathing suits need to be made a part of clothing choices.

Sunscreen and bug repellent are essential. Clothing should be sprayed with repellent, in addition to bare skin. If wearing long pants, it is recommended that they are duct taped in boots to prevent tick bites, not to mention a loose snake or two may be around.

For those that only imagine camping, the food may be thought of in terms of graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. This is a fun food, but will do no good without a balanced meal for proper sustenance. With an ice cooler, cold cuts, cold drinks, bread, crackers, dried fruits, and cheese are excellent foods to pack. Canned beans, chili, soups and meats add necessary protein. Freeze dried foods are not a necessary addition to a camping trip, but are handy. Make the food interesting and be creative.

A Swiss Army knife will be handy for cutting, the scissors are excellent for opening packets. A Swiss Army knife will include a can opener which can be used on the canned foods included with the rest of the provisions. If any fish are caught while on the trip, use the knife for gutting.

Camping can be fun for one person or a whole family. Advanced preparations allow an adventure to start.

To Break The Monotony Of The City Try Camping

Published by admin under Timed Finals

I was always one who got tired of the monotony of city life. I craved to be outdoors from time to time, just to clear my head. So that was what I intended to do on one particular day. I had donned my camo pants and camo shirt, and was now pulling on my brown boots. I then searched my closet for the necessary gear, and started a little pile on my bed. All was to be taken out to my truck parked out front.

Once dressed, I grabbed some of my necessary gear, the flashlight, the sleeping bag, matches, and lantern. I made my way through all the new home decor accents that were freshly added only days ago, and out through the front door to my trusty truck. I threw the gear into the bed of the truck and went ahead and started it up. Then I went back inside for the rest.

I needed my tent from the basement. The light was out, but enough was coming in through the window to see fairly well. I walked down the stairs, and I picked up the tent, a small one I had bought years ago, that fit neatly into a box. As I turned to walk back up the stairs, I tripped over a dyson upright vacuum cleaner that belonged to my mother. I dropped the tent onto a sickle that was lying on the basement floor, and it went right through the box and the tent as well.

When I examined the tent, which was folded into its box, the blade has seared it in several places. It was then that I decided I would camp Hillbilly style, just a sleeping bag by the fire, on the ground. I was prepared to take on the mosquitos, and any other bugs that may happen to visit my campfire. Now I was psyched, and ready to take on the wilderness.

I put down the tent over in a near corner, but the side of the box just caught the edge of a paint thinner can and turned it over. Naturally, the lid was not on it very good, so immediately I was met with the fumes of paint thinner everywhere. I quickly grabbed for the can, sat it upright, adjusted the lid, and went to find rags to soak up the thinner. I found an old rag box and got as much as I could up. I knew what was left needed to be diluted with water. I opened the window and headed outside to put the garden hose through and water down the spill.

Soon the rags were out in the back yard, and the basement floor was adequately doused with water enough to dilute the thinner and keep the basement from going up in flames. The window was slightly cracked to help with ventilation for a while. Then I noticed that my vision was almost next to nothing. It had become dark as I had been working on cleaning up my mistakes. So it was too late for me to go camping anyway.

I returned the things I had already loaded into my truck. It was dark, and the first stars had appeared beside a quarter moon. I stood on my front porch, having a last look at the day I should have spent at my favorite camping site, but had spent frantically correcting my bumblings. But at least I could say one good thing about this day, it had been anything but monotonous.

The Outdoors Is The Best Place To Take Your Family On Vacation

Published by admin under Snow Skiing

It’s vacation time and you want your family to experience a new adventure together, but you have no idea how to go about it. How about taking them on a camping or skiing trip. It is so important to take children into nature and let them experience it in real life, rather than teaching them from a book or the television.

It is a thrill to sit and plan where and when you as a family will embark on an adventure such as this, because everyone gets to play an important role in planning and executing it as well. You children need to have some responsibility in making the trip a success and you could give them lots of small tasks to do. No doubt the boys will remember to bring along their men’s sport watch so they could keep track of time and use all the features on it as well. And of course for the ladies they will definitely want to pack their digital book reader, for the day it rains and you will have to stay indoors.

Our children spend way to much time in their rooms, playing computer games or surfing the internet and not to mention the thousands of text messages that their poor thumbs have to produce. It is partly our fault because after all why worry about there whereabouts if you could keep them safely in their rooms?

With technology bombarding us with the newest and latest gadgets, we don’t stop and think how it will affect our children in the long run. They need more sunlight and more exercise which will give them more energy and turn them into what they were made for, bubbling happy little people.

If you have snow nearby, you could combine a camping with skiing and have double the fun. Take your alpine skiing equipment along and show off in front of them a bit, or even better, provide them with laughter as you come tumbling down a slope, looking rather odd.

The added bonus for the entire family is that you will get the needed Vitamin D which the sun provides us for free. Exposed it the sun’s UV rays for about 20 minutes every third day will give you enough to help your bodies absorb more calcium and control a normal blood level of calcium and phosphorus.

You can’t go wrong with an outdoor vacation it will bind and foster a better relationship with all family members.
