Common criticisms to giving birth using a midwife

Published by admin under Timed Finals

People basically think of hospitals and doctors when they think of having a baby delivered. But there is definitely a growing movement among women who are actually wanting to go more natural.  There are some women who are foregoing the medication during delivery to have a more natural delivery. Part of that movement of going natural is having a midwife to give birth. There are definitely a lot of various advantages to this that in this article we are going to discuss.

First and foremost, some people think that using a midwife to deliver a baby is not a safe practice.  They think that having a baby with a doctor is the safest thing since they have all the medical equipment necessary. But definitely this is not true because most midwife deliveries are only done with safe pregnancies.  In other words if there is any history of complications it will not be performed with a midwife.  Other then that as a San Diego midwife I know first hand midwives know what to do in medical emergencies.

Another criticism is that, normally, midwives will not be using any medication that women definitely need.  That is false because women don’t need to have drugs for delivery.Drugs, as a matter of fact, are the major reason why most pregnancies take so long. The drugs can normally cause the birth to stop since it is sometimes disrupting the natural delivery. I have seen first hand as a midwives San Diego how much faster natural deliveries are.  So there is no need for medication and it only hinders the delivery.

Midwives are not doctors: that is another criticism. It does not actually mean that they don’t know what to do medically, while that is true. All midwives absolutely need to go through a hard and legal licensing and certification process. This simple process definitely teaches them all things especially on what medical procedures may need to be performed in specific situations.  As a San Diego licensed midwife practitioner I know first hand that midwives are prepared for emergencies.

Having a baby with a midwife, as you can see, has more benefits than people would have you to believe. It helps you to have a faster delivery than with medications and is definitely safer.

Midwifery in the 21st century

Published by admin under Timed Finals

One way of delivering a baby is by hiring a midwife.  Although not as common as having a baby in a hospital it is gaining popularity.  The reason why it isn’t as widely done is the common misconception that it is unsophisticated.  What I mean by that is not a lot of technology is used to do the procedure. And it is because of this lack of technology use that people think it is not a safe method to deliver a baby. That is why in this article we would be looking at the technological advances that midwifery made to cope up with modern times.

Well as a midwife in San Diego I know first hand that midwives are starting to use more technology.Although the main goal of midwifery is to use more natural ways in delivering a baby.  You still can use some modern technologies. An ultrasound is one technology that midwives also use.So that the midwives can also find out what the gender of the baby is.

Another advancement that is being done in my midwives San Diego service is that we do have emergency equipment at birth.  Things like equipment to resuscitate.  Other various forms of emergency equipment. These technological advances in midwifery make it more safer than ever.

Another advance being done with my San Diego waterbirth service is the waterbirth kits being used.Waterbirth is a method of giving birth to a baby by putting the mother in a tub of water. The kits help in making the delivery easier.  They also are in place to help the mother as well as the baby stay safe.

As you can realize midwifery has also advanced in its methods and it is safer. The method is just more natural as compared to hospital delivery but the practice has advanced also.  This all leads to the fact that having a baby at home and with a midwife is safer then you think.  All of these advanced tools make having a baby at home as safe as having a baby in the hospital. So if you plan on undergoing a homebirth do not think that it is not safe.

Having babies through water birth method

Published by admin under Timed Finals

One of the options on having babies that women have but is not that popular is waterbirthing. That is where during delivery a woman is placed in a bath or tub.  From there she delivers the baby. There are many benefits to this method.  And although not as commonly known, more women are doing it.  In this article we are going to examine the benefits of it.

First of all having a baby in water is very beneficial to the woman and the baby. As a San Diego licensed midwife I have seen it firsthand.  The benefits to the woman is that the water soothes some of the labor pains. And it also relaxes the muscles.  This allows for a quicker delivery.

Another benefit that people will get fro this method is that there is no drugs used because it already soothes the muscles of the mother and it also eases the pain of delivery.  A lot of times the waterbirth allows the woman to have the baby naturally. I have seen it a lot of times while having a San Diego waterbirth.Women who usually need drugs to be administered to them during delivery do not necessarily have to use drugs in this method of birthing.  The water and soothing aspect allows them to withstand the pain. This is good for women who really don’t want any drugs during delivery. The reason for this is because they fear that drugs administered during the delivery will affect the baby.

And the benefits for the baby are as follows. For nine months, the baby has lived in an environmnet filled with water.By delivering babies through water birth reduces the shock that they experience when they are being delivered.Since the baby will be delivered straight into the water then the baby will experience less stress.Undergoing delivery is stressful enough for the baby.Reducing that shock a little bit will go a long way.  And these waterbirths can be performed by most San Diego midwives. They know how to perform this type of delivery. And as shown it brings a lot of benefits for the mother and the baby as well.

Pregnant mothers and how mdiwives can assist them

Published by admin under Timed Finals

If a woman gets pregnant there would be a lot of important decisins that should be decided upon immediately. She needs to go choose a doctor that suits her needs and wants. They need to choose a hospital whre they would deliver their babies. And other important things as well. Most women don’t realize that they also have the choice of opting for a natural delivery. That is the method where drugs are not administered during delivery. As a lot more people become health-conscious this method is gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is midwifery? It is defined as the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. Of course there are bigger definitions. But this defintion is the simplest one.  As a San Diego licensed midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally. This can give a lot of benefits. The use of no drugs is, of course, the main benefit. And without using drugs the delivery goes faster.  Because most drugs slow down pregnancy.

Now not only are women attempting to deliver naturally there are some choosing the home. They are opting to stay in their houses to give birth to their babies.  This seems a lot more different then people are used to.But it has lot of benefits in store for the babies and the mothers.  As a midwives San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. The privacy of the place is one benefit a mother can get from this method.  Also less intrusive medical procedures are needed because of the way the delivery is done.

There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize.  Some say there are safety concerns. But this factor should not be a big deal if the pregnancy is a low risk one.But of course it will not be recommended to a mother whose pregnancy is a high-risk one.  In my San Diego midwife practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.So that a doctor can immediately atted to the mother if an emergency arises.

The misconception about midwives

Published by admin under Timed Finals

Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers. They are there when the mothers are giving birth and they also provide prenatal care. Postpartum care is also provided by them as well.  In general, midwives are not usually nurses although they can be. But they have a governing body so they are being regulated. But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a midwife in San Diego, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe.Midwives also carry necessary medical equipments in case something unavoidable happens. And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.

This is where the benefits come.  As some homebirth midwife San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This kind of delivery involves no medicine while birthing. No medicine is being used to limit the pain experienced by the mother during birthing. But by not using medicines to help the mother during the delivery the birthing can finish at a faster time.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.

Plus as some women perform waterbirth deliveries this adds another benefit. From doing water birth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water relxes the muscles of the mother hence allowing an easy delivery. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are misconceptions about midwives and their profession. But here’s hoping that people would recognize the safety of this method as long as the pregnancy is low-risk.Also, they have a regulating body.  So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They know some medical procedures that may be needed in their said profession. So mothers should not worry about their safety while giving birth since midwives have all the necessary medical equipments for emergency purposes. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.

Choices you have for pregnancy

Published by admin under Timed Finals

One of the happiest times for a woman is during pregnancy.Quite a few women desire to have children. It is in the time of the pregnancy that those desires come to reality.

During the pregnancy plenty of choices and decisions are going to have to be made.  One of those choices is how to deliver the baby.  Sounds strange to say it is a choice but it is.  A lot of women usually go with using medicine to help deliver a baby.  But there is a growing movement of women who choose to go natural. In other words no use of medicine to help with the delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife. It is taken from that experience that I am going to express various benefits.

So why is it that quite a few women are opting for a non medical delivery.A few reasons.  First of all most women are realizing using medicine actually slows down the pregnancy.  When you are in pain and want to deliver as fast as possible, medicine defeats the purpose.A lot of women are now starting to understand.  What women don’t realize is that they can do it that way. If they make the choice to have it done that way, they can utilize the services of a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife is able to help a woman gently deliver.  They could choose a waterbirth.Waterbirth is a form of delivery that utilizes water to help with the pain and help during delivery.

Another thing is if a woman decides, a midwife can also help in a homebirth as well. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The benefits of doing it at home is a relaxed and a less stressful environment. These two benefits alone make it inviting to have it naturally.  If you are pregnant, it might be a choice you would want to make.

Safely choosing a midwife

Published by admin under Timed Finals

Pregnancy, what a beautiful time in the lives of a woman.  Well, I guess aside from the sickness.  But beyond that, the expectation of a new baby coming is exciting.

Usually, for most women, how to have the baby isn’t a big question.Because for most women they will choose the standard procedure which is the medical procedure which means hospitals, doctors, and drugs.

But for a few women, they do have an alternative. That alternative is finding a midwife to help you have a baby the natural way.  And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.

For those unfamiliar, midwives help women go through a natural delivery with no drugs.  This means usually no doctors.

Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes.Although, not known by most people, this way to deliver a baby is a safe and regulated alternative.

The women, or midwife, who performs this service is fully regulated. They can be licensed midwives or certified midwives that have a regulatory board that oversees them.

Sometimes they can be nurse midwives, but that is not a requirement.

This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Most of the time this choice is made by women who prefer not to have any drugs during delivery so that they can keep the new baby away from drugs. Also it is going to be for some women who don’t want invasive procedures.

Well when making a huge decision on how you want to deliver your baby you want to make the right choices. With anything, you want to be sure you choose the right person.

Like I mentioned before, this is a highly regulated industry. With that being the case, finding a good licensed or certified midwife is easy.

All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that  oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.

Something as simple as this step will help you determine if this is a midwife you can trust.  Obviously once you find that there are no complaints or reports against the midwife, you also want to check references.

You will want to find that midwife whose client base only have high praises for them.  With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.

Midwifery Schools of Thought

Published by admin under Timed Finals

Pregnancy and delivery; a source of joy and pain for the woman.Obviously joy is involved with the new baby, but if you ask most woman, they will also describe it was a source of unspeakable pain.

Well because of the pain that woman go through, there are two different schools of thought on how labor and delivery should happen.  I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.

There is the medical model for delivery which is associated with drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes cesarean to complete the delivery.

There is one other model, though not as common or accepted, but for those that practice it and believe in it, consider it a safer alternative for the woman.

That model is the midwifery model as it is called.  That model is in stark contrast with the medical model.  Where the medical model relies heavily on medicine, hence “medical”, midwifery relies on the natural.  Midwifery believes that pregnancy and delivery is a natural process and thus should be allowed to happen naturally.

This model is performed by a group called midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would help with some techniques that help the woman go through labor as naturally as possible without drugs.

Contrary to most people’s opinion, when medicine is not used during labor, it allows the labor to proceed much faster without the use of drugs to slow the labor down.

The midwife is a profession that has a regulatory board that oversees, certifies, and licenses the individual.

Although often not a doctor or nurse, some midwives can be nurses.

Even though they are not formal doctors or nurses, they will have some medical equipment for emergencies like resuscitation devices and equipment for suturing.

So this describes what a midwife is and what midwifery is about in relation to pregnancy and delivery.

Their goals are to let the labor and delivery happen as naturally possible.  This reduces the likelihood of a c-section.Does not subject you to hospital procedures that are invasive such as episiotomys.Less medical intrusion will be used such as drugs to speed up or slow the pregnancy or the breaking of the water. And the part woman love the most, usually labor and delivery happen much faster naturally.

Hopefully this article sheds some light on the benefits of midwifery and having a midwife for your pregnancy.  At the very least, hopefully it gives you more options to explore.  Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.
