    I wasn’t there, but I’d interpret that to mean that the relationships among the people on the 2004 team were negative. He’s anticipating the mix of personalities for the 2008 team will result in constructive, supportive relationships.

    Sounds like some of the divers didn’t like each other much. Not surprising in a highly-competitive individual sport such as diving.
