Ok.. back then Bo Jackson played for Raiders and KC Royal at the same time.. Also Deion Sanders played baseball and football at the same time.. but I don’t see anyone played both sports at the same time anymore.. Are there any rules prohibiting them to do so?

i don’t think teh rules have changed, but there is nobdy left like Bo or Deion who love their games so much they are willing to plat both…now days athletes are paid this ungodly amount of money they don’t care to show ALL of their talent…

I guess my thoughts are there any athletes who can play equal to what they are getting paid.

I think the talent is too great in both sports and the teams invest so much money in them that it keeps them from being able to pursue outside ventures. The most recent was Drew Henson, as a QB in Michigan he proved he could play in the NFL, heck Tom Brady couldn’t even beat him out to start full time. However, he decided after college to focus mainly on his baseball career as a Yankee third baseman cause Steinbrenner wasn’t spending money on this kid for no reason. When he did decide to leave baseball and go to the NFL he landed with the Cowboys, and you know Jerry Jones isn’t wasting his money on a two sport athlete (Deion didn’t play baseball during his time with the Cowboys).

There are no rules against it, but the odds of a player being talented enough to compete in MLB and the NFL are slim. Deion Sanders was a below-average baseball player, Brian Jordan a mediocre defensive back. Only Bo Jackson was a true star in both sports, and his football injury essentially ended both careers, likely scaring off anyone else tempted to make pro football their hobby.

I think there are plenty that can, they just don’t want to. A lot are multi sport players, even Brady was drafted by the Expos, but chose to play at Michigan instead.

Bo also only played with the Raiders after the baseball season was over, it was a Bo/Al deal. Deion I think just wanted more limelight (Deion likes the camera if you haven’t noticed).

Their current contract I’m sure would have to be modified to allow another sport and most likely forfeit any money if they got hurt in the other sport. I would think its just to risky with the $ we are talking about.

To start off with, I think this is a really good question. I don’t think there are any rules stopping players from playing two sports at once, I basically think that it is just the way things are today. For example you wouldn’t see someone like Brett Favre or Randy Moss play baseball and football at the same time as Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders did. Another thing would be the media. Football players that are of a high calibur get criticised enough by just playing football. Imagine having the whole baseball audience doing the same thing, that’d be terrible.

So yeah that’d be some of the main reasons why it doesn’t happen today, however it’d be cool to see someone step up to the plate and actually do it.
