    I know they played Tennis.

    Robespierre probably used the King’s head as a volleyball, too.

    The french loved le jeu de paume, royal-tennis in english.
    A sort of Tennis played with the palm.

    This sport is the original tennis : when the players served, they said tenez ! (litteraly take that ! in english). tenez has given tennis in english.
